Highway Americana, Vernakular's inaugural series is a poetic journey along the myriad of highways connecting urban and rural landscapes. Encompassing an 18-month period and clocking over 10,000 miles through 34 states - from the coastal communities of California, through the majestic mountains of the Rockies, to the Dutch counties of Pennsylvania - it was the ultimate visual road trip across America. The thousands of photographs taken by Vernakular founder, Raoul E. Calleja were all shot between 1999 and 2000 and was the impetus in forming Vernakular Photo Designs. The final images in this series were taken in Colorado, Utah, Montana, and Mississippi.
